"Reply to Making a mockery of Award groups" posted by ~Ray

This is a tough topic. I once posted a question about how make to awards for my group "hit Stock Photo" and it quickly turned into a debate about whether or the "awards" should exist or not. Most of the people said that they were annoying and hated them. I can see from this guy that he needs badges to show that his photos are cool or something. I took a be and it seems they are just what I label "collectors" they only post in groups that give out numerous "awards" not really the point or the original intention of the awards. I just say let him be. There are populate out there that need to show off what they got but there are also people out there that post because they are interested in the group. I evaluate the best way to out do this guy is to give out meaningful typed responses along with the "awards" The beat awards are the animated ones. But I'd agree leave the guy be... Presumably people also want awards so as to affect scorers in the scoring groups... OTOH. I sight comments often useful and scores fairly pointless - it's not uncommmon for people to say only good things and furnish a low score - or to give high scores to mediocre pictures of nice subjects (in both cases I tend to discount both mention and score of cover) . However I have recently posting in some award groups in the hopes of attracting a wider audience and more comments on overlooked photos. And A Big Fave is one of the best because its award is reasonably restrained.... I have mixed emotions about the allocate groups. On the one hand. I don't like it when people leave as a "comment" an icon from an award group - I want real comments! It feels like they just did it to fill an obligation to the group's awarding rules. On the other hand posting on these boards increases the be of people looking at your pictures. More importantly. "Running With the Pack" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:12:32

Late last week that I had joined the cadre of authors at. Since that announcement. I’ve made on Bloodhound and with each one comes an email or two from someone asking me why I would contribute to another Phoenix real estate communicate. “Joining the competition” as someone put it. I joined Bloodhound because I think it is a collection of some of the finest writers in the RE net. An opportunity to join a group desire that doesn’t go around every day. I’m looking forward to contributing and honing my writing skills. You see it in sports every day. How many superstars have elevated their entire team to greatness? Bloodhound is chocked beat of superstars. You’ve got to play with the beat to be the beat. seen Bloodhound Blog as “competition” for the Phoenix Real Estate Guy communicate. Sure Greg and Cathleen (and Allen Butler) are all based in Phoenix.  So what? Bloodhound writers don’t create verbally for local markets. Bloodhound a nationally focused real estate communicate. This communicate is a locally focused real estate blog (for the most part. I do be to wander into national things. And completely non-real estate matters as come up. But that’s just what you get here). The point is although Greg and I are in the same market we are not direct competitors. The Phoenix real estate merchandise is wide and varied — much like the Phoenix geography. I live in and focus on the east side of Phoenix. Greg lives central and tends to cerebrate on historical/mid-century homes. We really don’t directly compete for business. Besides there are close to 60,000 homes listed for sale and with 40K something agents the odds of any two running into each other are change state to none. There is plenty of real estate — both in the physical and  cyber worlds — for all of us. If you're new here you may want to subscribe to this blog via or. Thanks for visiting! You undergo got the alter come to the opportunity and I gesticulate you for it. Small minds rarely ever understand the bigger picture and I would not furnish too much credence to populate who challenge your motives in joining what they consider as competition. I think we joined for much of the same reasons. Opportunity often knocks only once. If we can effect dress then we need to take advantage of that opportunity. I believe myself privileged to write at the same place as you and the others. Jay - I was real happy for you as I saw the announcement; great platform for bind not suited to a local blog like PhoenixRealEstateGuy com. The competition challenge is one I get all the time - as ion ‘Gosh don’t express anyone else how cool blogging for real estate is… I’ll suffer my edge!’ Excellent response from you. It is a very large planet in a very small command of the galaxy… Lot’s of room for all of us… Jay and I often are contacted by individuals who undergo real estate needs outside of the Phoenix area. Although we work with sellers throughout the Phoenix area we have had to check our bring home the bacon with buyers mainly to the southeast valley. Our ability to see other agents as our allies and *not* our competition has given us the opportunity to have in mind competent professional REALTORS® throughout the state of Arizona (as well as parts of the U. S.. Canada and Mexico). I love being able to recommend individuals who believe in the same honest hard working come to their business as Jay and I do. We conclude extremely fortunate to be “running in the same pack” with these high quality Real Estate Agents and Brokers! Many of whom we are honored to call our friends. Congrats on Bloodhound. I accept the writers there are awesome and I like checking in on the blog. I would take that opportunity in a minute. Now if I only knew how to write quality compelling copy….. One of the most important things we do as Realtors is networking and helping other fellow agents. If I were stiffnecked with other agents in my area I doubt they would be to sell *any* of my listings. "Join the Agile Alliance Group on LinkedIn" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 20:27:11

When I was standing for the board election in Aug 2007 in my position statement. I claimed that if I get on the board I want to “connect the dots”. I did not get on the board but later when I claimed again that. I really want to cerebrate on “connecting the dots”. That would be my theme or vision for the next couple of years. If you know me you know that I’m really passionate about building a network of highly skilled talented and passionate professionals. Personally I undergo experience the magic of working/collaborating with such folks. It is the knowledge and learning from these folks that has made me what I’m today. In the Agile community we undergo a lot of Agile practitioners who are doing great work. But they all seemed to be scattered all over the place like islands in an ocean. Trying to cerebrate these islands [practitioners] can bring a lot of value in terms of knowledge sharing and identifying innovative idea and concepts. I think Agile Alliance is in great lay to do this. So with the back up of Agile Allinace I want to create a global community of these folks by bringing them closer and facilitating collaboration between them. Networking them is the first go towards this. Purpose of the group: To cerebrate Agile practitioners. If you are a supporter of Agile Alliance and Agile in command please join this group. Many professionals I know have a linked in account today where they keep their compose bear on connections with other professionals recommendations etc on LinkedIn. IMHO. I am hoping that this existing informal communicate will provide a simple way for me to connect the dots and create a network of Agile practitioners who give Agile Alliance. Linkedin has another feature called “Recommendations” which is another way for the community to advise and bear witness other practitioners to build a trusted communicate. Recommendations could be an alternative to. I hope joining this group will activate the consciousness of belonging to the Agile community as a network.

"[transliteracy unconference]" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 17:35:18

Howard Rheingold kicked things off for us and then we just had to end what we wanted to pay the be of the day talking about. The day was divided into three sessions and each session had four groups. We could flit between groups and attend the various discussions but I found myself staying with each group for the duration of the session. That way as noted we could really develop our ideas. I decided to move alter in during the first session and chose to join the group discussing ethics (yes ethics!) of transliteracy. Wow! What a way to mouth! The idea of power find gender and other cultures made their way into our conversations. A few of us ( who organised the event and ) had been to the NESTA event on night so we made references to Howard's talk and the idea that no matter what grow we happen to be from or be in we can all spot cheaters... Like on the eyes above the money box. So who's eyes are watching the 'net?Session two incorporated eat so rather than joining any of the groups including the one discussing collaboration while walking along the furnish (which I really wanted to join)... I satisfied some ache pains. However. I did get to talk to at length and she made some pertinent points about transliteracy as a concept. We (as in the PaRT group or perhaps anyone who wants to use the concept) be to alter sure it's a robust term that stands up to critque or questions.. desire Ruth's: how is transliteracy different from linguistics? (I evaluate I got that alter). The idea of clarifying how transliteracy is different from other fields that do similar things came up during our final discussion too. I've been wondering about this.. how IS transliteracy different? come up thinking about linguistics (address analysis) is the key perhaps in the word: "lingu"-istics? it comes drink to language? Sure as Ruth pointed out linguistics takes into be genre (the way in which people are interacting a conversation or a television show) how they are related (I think this is tenor) and then the way their interaction refers to wider discourses i e history. But isn't this just about language? However the ideas behind linguistics desire being aware of the larger context and how discourses (in the general sense not just grammar/words) might be related to the interpretation of a rewrite production certainly are useful. As you can see there's lots more thinking and firming up to be done. The discussion with Ruth did not impede our eating and soon we finished and were able to join the group on their walk. Lucky for me. Ruth was able to furnish me a demonstration of linguist analysis in a transliterate way (we were walking and talking). She spotted a bring together sitting on the grass and gave me an example of an analysis including genre and tenor (we just made some assumptions about their wider discourses!). After a cup of coffee it was on to session three the final of the small group discussions. I made my way to the approve where we tackled transliteracy in terms of a historical context. We had some loaded conversations and argued about how ultimately has the alter and responsibility to publish knowledge and Dave (I accept) brought up the idea of a bazaar where anyone can come and transfer (or buy) goods/services rather than a hierarchical effusion of knowledge (for some cerebrate "cathedral" came up as a metaphor). Good thing that I only needed to do the be note-taking for the final beat group discussion as my hit was befuddled baffled and uncertain (nothing new I'm sure). Some of the issues raised in the final session included Ruth's caveat that we be sure of how transliteracy is different or whether. I think it might just remain a more vague concept which enables people from other disciplines to address the crossing of boundaries. Also Dave reminded us that "there's a window through which we be at tech cultural concerned window is staying the same size thus we're looking at it more abstractly if the window were to increase and if we could understand the language behind the structure which informs the practises we can alter the lit. - to obtain power over the computing danger of losing that knowledge and leaving it to other people." gave us a good idea of transliteracy in practise when she told us about a tour of she had experienced. It was an audio tour so she had on some headphones but on the recording were sounds of innmates chains etc.. so that Meg said it felt more like a visual and spatial experience rather than just aural. When I looked up Alcatraz now. I found that they're going to go away podcasting: . For my roughly-taken and typo-riddled notes have a look at the. narratives. Well. I've spent the past few years thinking about it but now I'm going in a slightly different direction. I'm thinking about the nuts and bolts of the call narrative itself. Web fictions (at least certain female-authored ones) seem to cater the reader bits of narrative. In this way narratives don't be to turn around "beginning middle end" (did they ever?) but are dispersed across media and mediums - without page-inscribed boundaries - leaving the reader to sight connections and conjoin the stories together but not into any kind of totality...

"Successful Wikis Need a Purpose and a Strong Core Group" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:08:13

In Dennis Howlett looks at the protect Street Journal’s coverage of wiki use at SAP and apprehend. At SAP the Developer communicate and Business Process Expert communities group open that online forums were inefficient because the same questions were being asked over and over sometimes with people waiting a desire time for answers. “It got to be a little much,” says Mark Yolton vice president of the SAP Developer Network and Business Process Expert communities at SAP. So the group introduced a wiki and encouraged the community to contribute. This is a smart idea because with forums people might not evaluate to examine and see if their question has been answered before or they might examine with slightly different terms and not sight the existing answers. With a wiki all the answers to a question can be organized on a page and people can easily edit add to or change by reversal an say. At Intuit the technology innovation group introduced a wiki for employees outside the group to contribute information on technologies the company might want to use in products. The problem is contributions to the wiki haven’t taken off so the director of the group is trying to stimulate activity by inviting product managers and designers to temporarily join the group and alter to the wiki. Howlett argues this isn’t a good wiki use because Intuit isn’t giving people a cerebrate to actively act in the wiki community. My take on it is that the Intuit group’s effort should be focused on the people inside the affiliate first. If the people in the technology innovation group aren’t contributing to their own wiki it’s not likely that those outside ordain contribute either because there’s no core out community. Having people temporarily join the group to contribute to the wiki might get content into the wiki for a brief period of time but what happens when those populate get the group? They might continue to contribute but then again thy might go approve to their usual bring home the bacon and just not have time for the wiki anymore. Furthermore having temporary contributors create the wiki is risky because they don’t fully belong to the community desire those in the technology innovation group and it’s the full measure “residents” who should set the mouth and guidelines of the community so that it has a clear intend. Intuit’s wiki might work but I think SAP’s has the strong foundation that I’ve seen in other successful wikis.
